Three (Truly) Dreamy Romance Destinations

Not all “romantic” destinations deliver in practice. These three do, offering the space and pacing that make time together feel effortless rather than orchestrated.

01. Pulia

If you want Italy without the crowds or the spectacle, Puglia delivers. Whitewashed villages cling to cliffs, ancient olive groves stretch toward the Adriatic, and the food tastes like it came straight from someone’s grandmother’s kitchen.

Stay at Borgo Egnazia, where the spa, food, and service feel as thoughtful as the setting is beautiful, or Masseria Torre Coccaro, a centuries-old watchtower estate surrounded by olive trees.

Days here unfold slowly. Long lunches stretch into dinner. Cooking classes take place in Lecce kitchens rather than in staged studios. Small local wineries focus on what’s in the glass, not the performance around it. It’s a laid-back type of beauty you feel rather than just observe.

Spring arrivals in April and May are still possible if you’re looking to escape winter sooner. I’m also planning several fall trips now to take advantage of optimal weather, better availability, and more favorable pricing before peak summer rates set in.

02. The Maldives

The Maldives is popular for a reason: privacy. Villas sit over water so clear you can watch fish move beneath you. You can swim straight from your deck, have breakfast delivered by boat, and spend entire days without seeing another person if that’s what you want.

Not all resorts are created equal. Soneva Fushi offers barefoot luxury with depth and intention. Cheval Blanc Randheli brings French refinement to island life, with interiors so beautiful that lingering indoors feels part of the experience. Private-island resorts like JOALI or Velaa offer the kind of seclusion that makes the rest of the world disappear.

The Maldives is often associated with honeymoons, but it’s equally suited to solo travelers seeking a reset or couples marking an anniversary. This isn’t about grand gestures. It’s about having nowhere else to be.

If you’re considering the Maldives, I can tell you which resorts justify their rates and which room categories matter most.

03. Kenya

Kenya delivers the romance of the African bush without trying too hard. This is Out of Africa country, where dusk turns the land gold, and the horizon stretches so far you'll never find the end. At places like Segera Retreat in Laikipia or Angama Mara, the setting does most of the work.

Sundowners happen on kopjes with views that leave you speechless. Nights are spent in tents where your bed faces the wilderness, nothing separating you from the stars. Mornings begin early, sometimes from a star bed, sometimes with a sunrise that feels it belongs to you alone.

Kenya suits honeymoons and anniversaries just as well as travelers who want to feel awake again. Life here follows wildlife and weather rather than an agenda, and that slower rhythm leaves room for unforced connection.

I’m planning several Kenya safaris for fall 2026, and a few exceptional camps still have availability before rates climb. Timing makes a meaningful difference here, and I can help.
