Condé Nast TRAVELLER

If you want the complete, unbiased picture, forego the social media influencers in favour of following agents who focus on Africa says Tiffany Figueiredo, a safari designer for Cartology Travel.

“We scout the most ethical, high-quality, value-for-money safari lodges and companies, often paying our way. We won’t put anything on our feeds we don’t believe in because we don’t want clients calling with complaints.”

Tiffany Figueiredo

Founder, Global Travel Advisor

With years of experience in luxury travel, Tiffany Figueiredo has explored many of the world’s most extraordinary corners, from wild savannas and far-flung private islands to remote deserts and cosmopolitan capital cities. Her background in editorial storytelling brings a rare perspective to trip design: every journey she creates is thoughtfully layered, beautifully paced, and deeply personal, like stepping into a narrative written just for you.

Tiffany founded Fig Travel Co. in 2016 after two decades as a luxury magazine writer and editor covering travel, food and wine, fashion, interiors, and the fascinating people behind them all. A natural tastemaker and obsessive organizer, she combines deep destination knowledge, high-level global contacts, and meticulous research to craft perfectly tailored itineraries. Expect soulful hotels, unforgettable culinary moments, meaningful local connections, and the kind of restorative time in nature that stays with you. As an Africa specialist, Tiffany creates flawless, life-changing safaris, gorilla treks, island escapes, and immersive cultural journeys across the continent. She moves effortlessly between the wild and the refined — safari tent one week, five-star suite in Paris the next — guiding her clients to both, and everywhere in between.

She is a hands-on advisor who knows her clients well and is personally involved in every step of the planning process. Along with her trusted team and on-the-ground partners, Tiffany remains accessible to traveling clients 24/7. When not exploring new destinations, this Texan bases herself in South Africa's Cape Winelands.

Friends, family and the familiar kept her firmly rooted in Fort Worth for many years, but Tiffany Figueiredo’s wanderlust could not be denied.

After a long career as a journalist — including a short time at 360 West — Figueiredo segued into a career as a travel planner and hospitality consultant in 2016. Today, she’s the owner of Fig Travel Co., part-time resident of Fort Worth and a new homeowner in Franschhoek, a small village about an hour’s drive from Cape Town, South Africa. Settled in the 1600s, the town is filled with lush vineyards, picturesque wildlife trails, stunning views and some of the best restaurants in the country.

AFAR

When South Africa opened its borders to Americans last fall, I decided to plan a bucket-list trip combining its safari regions with Cape Town and the nearby Winelands.

As the news developed around the “South African variant,” I knew I was going to have a difficult decision to make. Could I still go? Should I still go? Thankfully, I didn’t have to rely on doom scrolling alone—one of my dear friends and colleagues is travel advisor Tiffany Figueredo, who splits her time between Cape Town and Fort Worth. She gave me real-time guidance on the situation on the ground, and this intel ultimately empowered me to make an informed decision.

Advisor Tip – Tiffany Figueiredo

“My favorite place in South Africa is Tswalu Kalahari, a stunningly dramatic desert safari lodge that can be done easily in a couple of days via a private flight from Cape Town. Tswalu focuses on smaller wildlife – think meerkats and pangolins – but there are also cheetahs, giraffes, and zebras. South African chef Jan Hendrik van der Westhuizen, who runs an eponymous Michelin-starred restaurant in Nice, opened Klein Jan in a farmhouse on the reserve that’s one of South Africa’s most sought-after reservations. If you have to pick one safari, this is the most unique and easiest.”
